In cells:
Glucose + Oxygen ? Carbon Dioxide + Water + Energy
7Anaerobic respiration
If there is not enough oxygen for aerobic respiration muscle cells turn the glucose into lactic acid:
Glucose ? Lactic acid + energy
Lactic acid causes cramp
This can happen if muscles work so hard they cannot get enough oxygen from the blood
