An activity developed to get students to think about the conditions of different habitats in which some animals/plants might be adapted to live. Then the main task, students are split into groups and given a habitat to study, using textbooks, internet etc. The aim is for them to make a presentation for the group. I would have the groups peer assess each other as well. Nice catchy song too :)

The presentation in this resource includes some lovely images, but it is only five slides long and there is no written content. The two tasks are half a page each and it is not very clear if or how they link to each other. Students would probably need some further material, instruction and research sources in order to complete these. The adaptation song (Youtube link) is a nice way to liven up the lesson.

Adaptation Presentation Task

Adaptation Presentation Task In your groups you will be researching a habitat and the adaptations of the organisms within your habitat. You can produce a poster to present, a slot on a radio show or any other way you would like to present your findings to the class. The presentation has to be 5mins in length. Things to include in your presentation: What the habitat is like? (light availability, temperature, water etc) List the organisms you might find there (limit the list of plants and animals maybe 2 plants and 3-4 animals) How many of these organisms are there? (lots, only a few etc) Make a food chain/web for your habitat with the feeding types listed. Describe the energy transfer in your food chain. How are these organisms adapted to their environments? How does this adaptation help them survive? It may be a good idea to nominate a team leader, to

Adaptation task

Research a planet in our solar system and find out what the conditions on the surface would be like. Design an animal that could live in those conditions, include: Picture of the animal, coloured. What its environment is like, don’t forget to mention the planet you researched. The adaptations it has to survive in its habitat.
