Extra freebies
You'd like to get top quality, free files to download now, wouldn't you?
But we need you to sign up to access our free files and help our teacher contributors!
However, we have provided a list of stuff which is free to use and
download which you can use to build excellent lessons... and share them
on Teachable.net.
Pictures
Relevant images always seem to take ages to find. A good website is worth a thousand images... here are three of the best
A clever
search engine for Flickr images; a large database of free-to-use
material. Particularly useful for natural history / biology images, as
it recognises images that are of plants, insects etc (www.behold.cc/ )
A topically-arranged library of education-relevant images (/gallery.nen.gov.uk/)
Over 150,000 clip art images for teachers to use.
Sound effects
A free library of amateur sound effects to use as slide transitions. Download WAV versions to use in Powerpoint.
Stuggled to find an easy way to organise school trips or in-school activities? How about a phone messaging group, allowing you to easily send one message to all staff / parents / pupils. See how
here.
Templates
On Teachable's main listings you find ready-to-go files; these are templates that could be adapted to any lesson with a bit of time.
Catchphrase: Simple starter based on a popular UK quiz show. To adapt it you just need an image to hide behind the flashing squares (see above). Ask a pupil to come up to the board and try to reveal a flashing square by touching it. In Office 2003: open the PowerPoint file, Click on VIEW, then MASTER, then SLIDE MASTER. Select the current image, then Click on INSERT, then PICTURE, then FROM FILE and choose the picture you wish to insert. Make the image bigger or smaller so it will fit behind the flashing tiles…you can check this by viewing the slideshow. Contributed by Henry Cordy.
Bubble-splat: An instant way to make a quiz or Q&A plenary a lot more fun.
Made for the interactive whiteboard, but could be played via a laptop
and projector.
Ask a pupil to come up to the board and try to reveal a flashing square by touching it. Pupils splat one of the cartoon characters in a bubble to reveal how
many points the question is worth. The teacher asks a question and the
team gets the bubble points if they get it right. Contributed by Henry Cordy.
