This end of term activity will entertain all pupils with a Christmas theme. Animations, sound and colourful slides present mathematical problems for teams of pupils to solve. Ordering decimal lengths to hang up stockings, using calculations to put mince pies into boxes, delivering presents into the correct chimney, probability and naming 3D shapes all combine to add a sparkle in the final week.

This has been a popular set of worksheets for my class. Children start by colouring fractions of a collection, and then by shading pizza shapes in with different fractions of toppings. The worksheets usually take 2 lessons to complete and the results are usually colourful and playful.

Use a tennis court to introduce the concepts of perimeter, area and diagonal distances using pythagoras. Includes a fun game to guess the number of rectangles in a tennis court, and a tennis match style quiz that asks students to calculate a number of perimeters and areas and distances. The accompanying worksheet includes an outdoor measuring activity. Could be adapted for a squash court.
